Attached please find a copy of the Powerpoint presentation that Mel
Rosso-Llopart provided today in our meeting to discuss the "database".
To summarize the meeting, after introductions, Michael Carriger
presented a drawing of the flow of information involved in the Software
Engineering Distance Education maintenance of student data. He presented
three basic areas of data: (1) the student's administrative data
including application, registration and billing information, (2) course
information, including course content and information about developers
and instructors, and (3) information accessible to students, e.g.,
course history, transcript data (personal and confidential and
accessible only by the individual student).

Mel's presentation focused on the technical aspects of the database, and
he discussed the need for a flow between the technical data and the
administrative data.

Walt Schearer noted that there were primarily four (4) groups present in
the meeting: MSE (Phyllis and Ellen) , Distance Education (Michael and
Cheryl), the PhD Program (Anita) and Executive Education (Ann and
Beverly). Since these four programs are administered by ISRI, a focus of
the "database" will be to develop common functionalities.

Jing Zhang and Rajesh Philipos, the two MSE students present, will meet
with their studio groups to discuss the feasibility of working on the
database as their MSE studio project. They will get back to us next
week, and if they decide to take on the project they will arrange to
meet with each of the four groups listed above and Walt to review the
specific needs of each group and develop a plan.
